Proposed Amendments to the District's Soil Removal & Deposit Bylaw

The District of Central Saanich Municipal Council is currently in the process of considering proposed amendments to the District’s Soil Removal & Deposit Bylaw to expand the jurisdiction and regulatory authority of the Bylaw to include lands in the Agricultural Land Reserve.

On June 14, 2010, a Special Committee Meeting was held in the Council Chamber to solicit comments, input and feedback from the local agricultural community and other key agencies and stakeholders on the proposed bylaw amendments. Council subsequently instructed staff to prepare the necessary amendment bylaw for consideration of the necessary readings at a future Council meeting.

The proposed Amendment Bylaw was given three readings by Council at the Special Open Council Meeting held on August 3, 2010. The Bylaw has been forwarded to the Ministry of Community and Rural Development for approval and to the Agricultural Land commission for comment prior to consideration of final adoption later this year.
