Forest Stand Management

The Central Saanich Parks Department will be working on forest stand Management in Centennial Park this spring. The work is part of an ongoing effort to increase the species diversity and habitat value of the forest stand in Centennial Park.  The work will include cutting a number of trees that municipal arborists have identified as dead or hazardous, followed by extensive replanting with suitable native tree and understory shrub species.  This project will focus on an area west of the Lacrosse box, upslope from Graham Creek. The current project does not include the stream corridor immediately next to the creek.  As part of the District’s tree planting program, new trees are planted any time the municipal Parks and Public Works departments need to remove a tree.

Park users should be aware that for safety reasons, periodic trail closures may be necessary in the immediate area while this work is completed.  Please stay on designated trails and control your dog to give this biodiversity enhancement project a chance to take root.
