Chatterton Park

Park Type: Tot Lot
Size: 0.16 ha

Chatterton Park, located on the southwest corner of Woodsview Place and Woodward Drive, was acquired in 2002 for use as a neighbourhood tot lot.  In the Fall of 2005, a public consultation process was initiated which included a neighbourhood survey, public open house and questionnaire.

Results from the public consultation process were then utilized in the preparation of a preliminary design which was endorsed by Council in April, 2006.

In Spring 2007, a park naming contest was conducted.  Upon consideration of the entries, Council endorsed "Chatterton Park" as the official name for this totlot, in recognition of the former property owners who, for many years, encouraged neighbourhood children to play in their field.

Initial development of Chatterton Park was undertaken in 2007 with financial assistance received from the Brentwood Bay Rotary Club and the Province of British Columbia - Olympic/Paralympic Live Sites programme.

The park was officially opened on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. Attended by Mayor Mar, Council members, Hon. Murray Coell (MLA), members of Brentwood Bay Rotary Club and the general public The ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, watering-in of a Normandy maple, cake, refreshments and a checkers match.
