NEWS: With the announcements of the BC Restart Plan and guidelines for public meetings, the District of Central Saanich is pleased to confirm the public will be able to attend Central Saanich Council meetings as of September 20, as long as the province is in Step 4 at that time. During the pandemic the District relocated Council Chambers to a larger room in Municipal Hall to enable physical distancing. The new Chambers is being made permanent over the summer as the municipality is investing in physical and technical upgrades to the room to improve the accessibility of meetings. The new Chambers will provide the room necessary for larger meetings, such as public hearings.
Council meetings and Public Hearings are being conducted virtually and broadcast live here. After September 20, the public can attend in person or virtually.
If you wish to submit a comment or question to Council for the meeting, you can email to email@example.com or deliver via the drop box at the front door prior to noon on the day of the meeting. Submissions for 'Public Questions' will be read aloud at the meeting. Your question(s) may have to be summarized to fit within the allotted time.
Other Meetings of Council
Committee of the Whole Meetings are scheduled on an as needed basis. These meetings are also open to the public and webcast. Agendas are posted on our CivicWeb site. When sitting as Committee of the Whole, members of Council receive presentations from applicants and staff on items requiring more in-depth explanation, discussion and Council feedback.
Special Council meetings and Public Hearings are called by Council on an as needed basis. Agendas for these meetings are also posted on our CivicWeb site.
Committees & Commissions
Citizens sit on various commissions and committees and act as trustees for the community. They review applications brought forward by municipal staff and make appropriate recommendations to Council. It is a matter of law that members not become involved in conflict of interest situations and members should actively avoid gaining, or appearing to gain, private advantage from matters about which they have privileged information, or about which they are asked to comment and advise.
Current committees are:
- Advisory Planning Commission: Advises Council on development applications and heritage matters.
- Board of Variance: Reviews development variance applications and can grant minor variances when compliance with the Zoning Bylaw would cause a person undue hardship.
- Official Community Plan Advisory Committee: To provide input on a broad range of OCP topic areas and assist with targeted consultation to gather input.
Please see 'Documents' for committee terms of reference. If you have questions about a committee, feel free to contact us.
Our Connect with Council page has information on how to bring something forward to council or a committee.
