Ball diamond renamed after longtime volunteer

Central Saanich residents George Tiessen and Peter Parsons were regular fixtures during the ball season at Centennial Park. The duo volunteered countless hours year after year for decades to support local youth sport and do what they could to better their community.

Now with the recent renaming of Centennial Park’s Ball Diamond #2 as "George Tiessen Diamond" — the pair will be ever present at the park as George Tiessen Diamond is across from the previously named Peter Parsons Diamond.

To honour George's service to the community, on Saturday, April 9, 2022, Mayor Windsor presented George with a plaque that will be installed on the diamond.

From coaching to umpire duties and wearing many other literal and figurative hats, George played an enormous role in Central Saanich Little League. The District of Central Saanich is proud to recognize his significant contributions.

A local newspaper article further tells the story of George, Peter and their contribution of the community: https://www.vicnews.com/home/cental-saanich-ball-diamond-to-be-renamed-after-longtime-volunteer/
