One day every year, our community comes together to pay special homage to those who serve our country. We remember these brave men and women for their courage and their devotion to ideals, and we remember why we must work for peace every day of the year.
Today we gathered at Central Saanich Municipal Hall for a wreath laying ceremony to honour our fallen. The ceremony included two minutes of silent tribute, a wreath laying procession, remarks by Mayor Ryan Windsor and Warrant Officer Ed Widenmaier, a reading of In Flanders Fields by a young member of the local Girl Guides chapter and more. We hope you were able to join us, and will join us again next year at our community's new cenotaph in Centennial Park, which will provide a year-round memorial location for paying our respects.
