The District of Central Saanich council is seeking community input to identifying and finding long-term solutions to a range of issues in Brentwood Bay waters.
“We want to ensure that we know what issues are of most importance to the community,” says Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor, “we will work closely with the community, Tsartlip First Nation and other levels of government to come up with long range solutions.”
Residents’ known concerns include abandoned and sunken vessels, boaters dumping their sewage and garbage into the water, accumulation of too many vessels, navigating the crowded waters safely, lack of parking on the streets near the docks and noise.
Many municipalities with coastline struggle with similar issues, complicated by the fact local, provincial and federal governments have different jurisdictional authority and responsibility.
To assist with finding solutions to the highest priority issues, Council would like to hear from residents, businesses and visitors to the region about their concerns.
You can also follow the project, take a survey and get involved in discussions HERE. The online forum will be open for the duration of the project. Further public consultation will take place in person in August.
Staff and Central Saanich Police Department will also be reaching out to boaters in the bay.
