The District of Central Saanich has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for last year's 2018 Financial Plan.
This award represents a significant achievement by the District and it reflects its commitment to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting, and to receive this award the District had to satisfy internationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
These guidelines assess how well the District’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communication device. Budget documents must be "proficient" in all four of the above categories to receive this award.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
There are over 1,600 participants in the Budget Awards Program.
Comment on the 2019 budget
Central Saanich’s 2019 Draft Financial Plan is online with a ‘Balance the Budget Challenge’—an interactive tool that allows users to learn where tax dollars go and provide feedback. The Financial Plan is prepared by staff, made available for public comment, and then presented to Council for consideration in a series of presentations from February 19 to March 19, 2019 (meeting dates). The public is invited to provide input by February 15, so it can be provided to Council prior to the budget meetings.
