We are creating a plan to help our community prepare for natural hazards.
Our climate is changing. We are experiencing more frequent and intense natural hazards like wildfires, floods, severe storms, heavy rainfall, drought and extreme heat.
In response, we are creating a Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation Plan to help protect our community.
We want to hear your concerns about our changing climate. We also want to know more about climate impacts you have experienced in Central Saanich.
Please give your input.
Subscribe for email updates on Let's Talk, Central Saanich to hear about project milestones and opportunities for your input throughout this project.
Key engagement opportunities are also listed under Related Links below.
The plan will identify:
local natural hazard risks and climate impacts
ways we are vulnerable and how we are addressing those things right now
steps and resources to protect our community in the future
This plan will help us prepare for acute events (like heat waves) and slow changes (like sea level rise).
Our climate affects everyone and solutions need to make sense for us locally.
Your input will help make sure that our community's plan reflects the diverse people living and working in Central Saanich.
This project is funded by the Union of BC Municipalities. We applied for funding through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund which helps communities across the province.
Public engagement began in October 2024 and will be complete in July 2025. We aim to finalize the draft plan in November 2025.
This is a substantial project and our goal is to be thoughtful and thorough. We will continue to prepare for and respond to natural hazards as a community during this project timeline.
