Property Taxes
The due date for property taxes is July 2, 2021. The late payment penalty for Residential, Utility and Farm assessment classes is 10% on outstanding taxes after July 2, 2021. To assist businesses facing difficult times, Council has adjusted the late payment penalty on properties taxed as Light Industry, Business and Recreation assessment classes (5, 6 and 8) to 5% on outstanding taxes after July 2, 2021 and an additional 5% on outstanding taxes after September 1, 2021.
How to pay
For the safety of the public and our staff, please avoid in-person payments. There are several payment methods available:
Through your bank | Contact your financial institution for their rules for paying bills in person. Or pay online, log into your bank account and search for “Central Saanich” selecting property tax to make your online banking payment. |
Through your mortgage company | Contact your financial institution to set this up. |
By mail | Mail your cheque and the bottom portion of your tax notice to: The District of Central Saanich |
Drop Box | There’s a secure slot at the entrance of the Municipal Hall. The slot is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. |
If you must pay at the Hall we are open Monday through Friday 8:30-4:30. Masks are required for all persons entering the building. Hours and Hall accessibility may change according to Provincial Heath Orders
Tax Deferment
Tax deferment is a low interest loan program that helps qualified B.C. homeowners pay their annual property taxes on their principal residence. It is managed by the Province of BC. Learn more about online applications at gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment or by phoning 1.888.355.2700.
Home Owner Grant
NEW for 2021, homeowner grants must be claimed online through the Province of BC. Please visit www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or call 1-888-355-2700 for details about amounts, eligibility, and more.
All Residential, Utility and Farm assessment class properties (1, 2, and 9) will be assessed a penalty of 10% on outstanding property taxes paid after July 2, 2021.
Council has adjusted the penalty to assist Businesses classes (5, 6 and 8) as follows:
A 5% penalty will be charged on outstanding property taxes paid after July 2, 2021. An additional 5% penalty will be charged on balances outstanding after September 1, 2021.
Yes, BC Assessment assesses Farms lower than market value, resulting in lower taxes.

If you have the information of the new owner you should forward the tax notice to them. Alternatively you can return it to the Property Tax Department.
No, only the registered owner can claim a home owner grant if they are eligible. Only one grant can be claimed per year, even if you own multiple properties. If the child’s name appears on the title then they can claim the grant if they also meet the other eligibility criteria.
