Highway 17 from Island View Road to Amity Road will be closed from noon to 1 pm on Friday, October 23, 2020; a peaceful demonstration is planned in support of Mi'kmaq Indigenous fishing rights.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and look for alternate routes. Route detours will be marked and traffic control dispersed along routes. Please expect delays during this timeframe and in the Central Saanich area.
“We ask the public to please exercise patience and drive safely,” said Chief Constable of the Central Saanich Police, Ian Lawson.
Central Saanich Police along with the RCMP will be monitoring for public safety. The Ministry of Transportation is providing traffic control assistance.
