Civic redevelopment

To address aging municipal facilities requiring replacement, the District is currently exploring options to redevelop property and better use land to not only address the needed replacement, but benefit the community by creating new housing, services and amenities. The facilities include the Municipal Hall, Police Station, Fire Station 2 and Municipal Yard.

Brentwood Bay Sewer ReplacementStart date: March 2024

The Brentwood Bay sewer system has reached the end of its life cycle; it handles approximately half of the municipality’s wastewater, including flows from the  W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) First Nation.

Phase 1: The new multi-use pathway, completed in March 2025, separates pedestrians and cyclists from traffic along Mount Newton Cross Road. The pathway links to an upgraded intersection at Lochside Drive, including new road markings at the four-way stop.

Phase 2:  Conceptual designs are underway. Community engagement was completed in January and February 2026. This phase, between Highway 17 and East Saanich Road, would connect Saanichton Village with the Lochside Regional Trail, SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) First Nation and nearby neighbourhoods.

Phase 3: This section is in the early planning stage and would be along Central Saanich Road, south of Mount Newton Cross Road.

After the Province's Keating Cross Overpass Project is complete, the District will replace underground infrastructure and integrate modest surface improvements for pedestrians and transit.

Phase 1: Detailed designs are underway. This phase aims to replace sections of aging water main along Tanner Road (Elaine Way to Rodolph Road) and several residential streets.

Phase 2: Conceptual designs are underway. This phase aims to replace sections of aging water main along Central Saanich Road (base of Tanner Road hill to Keating Cross Road).
James Island Road water main replacementStart Date: TBD
Location: James Island Road between Lochside Drive and Turgoose Point
Annual water main flushing Annual water main flushing runs from January until mid May. Please see the Water Main Flushing Notice for updated schedule on affected areas.
