With the announcements of the BC Restart Plan and guidelines for public meetings, the District of Central Saanich is pleased to confirm the public will be able to attend Central Saanich Council meetings as of September 20, as long as the province is in Step 4 at that time.
During the pandemic the District relocated Council Chambers to a larger room in Municipal Hall to enable physical distancing. The new Chambers was made permanent over the summer as the municipality added technical upgrades to the room to improve the accessibility of meetings. The new Chambers will provide the room necessary for larger meetings, such as public hearings.
The public will still be able to attend meetings virtually until September 20. For information on how to participate in Council meetings, please see our Council Meetings webpage.
The District wishes to thank Councillors, the public and those who presented at meetings during the pandemic for their adaptability. It has been more than one year since meetings were made virtual to ensure compliance with prohibitions on mass gatherings and recommendations on physical distancing.
A Ministerial Order authorized local governments to use electronic or other communication facilities to continue providing services. The District worked hard to enable meaningful public participation during the pandemic, welcoming the public to participate in meeting virtually, or, for those who do not have a computer or are not comfortable using technology, written submissions and telephoning in to the meeting were also encouraged.
