With the amount of rain and ground saturation, and the incoming winds, residents are asked to use extreme caution. There are a number of instances of flooding on local roads and in parks, and it is best to avoid travel where possible; and travel with caution. Central Saanich Public Works, Fire and Police staff have been working since Sunday evening to address issues and assist with local flooding mitigation; pump trucks are being used to assist the sewer system.
Roads
Heavy rains continue throughout the day, many roads in the community are flooding. Please drive carefully and stay off the roads if possible. Drive BC is a good source of information for road statuses.
Parks and trails
Residents are advised to be vigilant around trees as the heavy rain followed by the wind expected Monday afternoon can bring trees down. Please stay out of parks and off forested trails and exercise caution.
Sandbags
The District has a self-serve sandbag station across the road from the Public Works Yard, 1703 Keating X Rd.
Reporting
Residents can report clogged storm drains or other non-emergency issues to Public Works at 250-544-4224.
