Six themed rides will provide bike skills and highlight beautiful routes around Central Saanich
Central Saanich is partnering with Capital Bike to offer free, guided community rides for residents of the District. The rides are designed to help residents of different ages and abilities gain bike skills, like road safety and route navigation, while meeting new people and enjoying the summer.
The six community rides have different routes and themes, from e-bikes to family-friendly rides. Each ride will have leaders from Capital Bike. All skill levels are welcome, whether residents are relatively new to riding bikes, getting back into biking, or seasoned cyclists. The size of the groups will be capped for safety. Residents can sign up through Capital Bike to reserve a spot.
Active transportation is a priority of the community, offering significant benefits for us—individually and collectively. More frequent bike trips help us meet our climate action goals, protect our health, and enhance quality of life. The District’s Climate Leadership Plan aims to see 50% of trips made by active transportation modes (walking, rolling, riding and public transit) by 2050. According to CRD data, the peak-hour bike count in Central Saanich has increased steadily since 2017. These community bike rides support residents who want to explore new routes and get more comfortable on two wheels.
Registration: Sign up at capitalbike.ca/centralsaanich/. Limited spots are available. Meeting places and key details will be emailed to registrants.
