District of Central Saanich wins top provincial award from Union of BC Municipalities
The District of Central Saanich has been recognized by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) with the prestigious Presidents Committee Choice Award for the District’s Integrated Planning and Reporting work.
The Presidents Committee Choice award recognizes a community the committee believed deserved special recognition for exemplary demonstration of excellence and outstanding achievement in relation to a current issue faced by local governments. It was given out during the annual UBCM Conference for local government Council and staff from across the province, which took place in Vancouver this week.
Central Saanich received the award for developing a framework that ties together various planning processes and strategies so District plans are talking to each other through an ongoing planning cycle. From the Official Community Plan and long-term financial plans right down to individual projects, Integrated Planning and Reporting has enabled the District to align the different departments towards a common goal and measurable metrics.
The Community Excellence Awards recognize and celebrate UBCM member First Nations, regional districts and municipalities that have implemented projects or programs that go above and beyond in meeting the purposes of local government in B.C. The awards are intended to showcase outstanding initiatives and share them with other members to implement in their own communities. The Union of BC Municipalities was formed to provide a common voice for local government and represents and serves all local governments in B.C. by being the recognized advocate for their common interests and meeting members’ common needs.
