The District of Central Saanich will be undertaking a condition assessment of the beach sewer pipe that is located on the foreshore between Marchant Road and Verdier Avenue.
District crews will be clearing rocks and debris from manhole covers during the week of June 8, and our contractor will be on site the week of June 22 during the period of very low tides to inspect the sewer pipe. Additionally, the contractor will conduct a “smoke test” to assess the condition of cleanouts.
The results of the condition assessment will enable the District to make long-term plans for repairs or upgrades to the sewer system, which is not anticipated for at least five more years.
Please note the District recently conducted a leak assessment and we have confirmed there are no leaks – neither sea water is leaking into the sewer system, nor is any wastewater leaking from the sanitary sewer.
