On June 26, 2024, the Province announced housing targets for the District of Central Saanich for 588 new homes over the next five years under the Housing Supply Act.
"The targets set by the Province are very close to the numbers determined during our Housing Needs Assessment, which is positive as it means we have tools in place to add those units in a manner that is appropriate for our community, including respecting more than 60% of our land is in the Agricultural Land Reserve. In recent years Central Saanich has taken several steps that will lay the groundwork for addressing the housing need, including introducing infill housing guidelines in 2020 to create a wider range of housing options and approving more than 350 units of purpose-built rental housing since 2020. We are focused on creating more opportunities for individuals or couples who want one or two-bedroom options, as we recognize our community does not have enough units of that size, and we are working on supporting policies and tools to minimize the impact of this growth on neighbourhoods."
