NOTICE OF FIRST READING

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2226 to amend the zoning regulations pertaining to heat pumps. The Noise Bylaw would also see amendments related to heat pumps to complement the zoning bylaw changes (Bylaw No. 2225)

This notice is to advise you that Council will consider First Reading of an amendment to the Central Saanich Zoning Bylaw, No. 2180 in accordance with Section 467 of the Local Government Act.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2226 proposes to amend zoning regulations pertaining to heat pumps to minimize noise disturbance to neighbours and improve the feasibility of heat pumps. The proposed changes include the following:

Adding a definition of “acoustic screening” to mean a barrier to restrict or absorb noise transmission from a noise source to a receiver of the noise to result in a lower sound. 

Requiring acoustic screening when a heat pump is sited 3 metres or less from a side or rear property line.
