Cooler conditions and higher humidity reduce immediate wildfire risk
The campfire ban will be rescinded Friday, May 15, at noon, in alignment with the BC Wildfire Service. Category 2 and 3 open burning will remain prohibited.
The ban was initially implemented at noon on Thursday, May 7. The order came early this year, with rising wildfire risk due to above-average temperatures and dry conditions.
Over the long weekend, Category 1 recreational fires will be permitted, meaning campfires smaller than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide. Residents are responsible for establishing and maintaining a fuel break and making sure fires are fully extinguished before leaving an area. Do not start campfires in windy conditions or leave fires unattended.
Category 2 and 3 open fires remain prohibited, as well as fireworks. For a full list of prohibited activities and equipment, go to CSFire.ca.
