Municipal Yard embankment stabilization to begin

The District will soon be undertaking important stabilization work on the embankment located behind the Municipal Yard. This work is necessary to ensure the slope remains structurally secure and continues to protect the yard, neighbouring properties, and surrounding infrastructure.

To complete this work, a significant amount of fill will be delivered to the site by dump trucks beginning in March 2026 and continuing for several months. The clean fill for the project is being sourced locally from qualified applicants and requires passing soil testing standards prior to deliveries being accepted. There are few opportunities on the South Island for dumping fill, which provides the District an economic opportunity to offset project costs by charging market rate dumping fees. This also supports reduced trucking emissions and costs for local projects. The CRD watermain upgrade project on East Saanich Road will provide a significant amount of fill for this site.

Residents and businesses near the Keating industrial area may notice increased truck traffic during this period. The District will work to minimize disruptions where possible and appreciates the community’s patience as we complete these works.
