Central Saanich Fire Department is aware of and attending to a smoldering fire at a yard waste facility affecting the Keating area. The fire is expected to smolder for two or more days; the fire department will be monitoring and supporting the excavators and crews on site.
If members of the public want to monitor local air quality, the District has an air monitor on Fire Station 1 on Keating Cross Road, which measures these fine particles in the air. The measurements are uploaded to an online map in 10-minute intervals. The air monitor can be viewed at https://www.centralsaanich.ca/fire/air-quality.
