Qualified Resident and Non-resident Property Electors can choose from several voting opportunities for the 2022 General Local Election, including Advance Voting, voting on General Voting Day or Vote by Mail.
Voter registration
We will use the Provincial List of Electors as our list of registered voters. Prior to August 24, you can register with Elections BC here. After, August 24, you can call 250.652.4444 to see if you're on the Voters List or bring two pieces of ID to the voting station.
Voter qualifications
In order to vote as a resident elector you must satisfy the following criteria:
- be 18 years of age or older;
- be a Canadian citizen;
- have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day of registration;
- not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or be otherwise disqualified by law.
You will be required to produce two documents (one of which must contain your signature) proving your identity and place of residency. The following are examples:
- a BC drivers license;
- a BC identification card issued by the Motor Vehicle Branch;
- an owner's certificate of insurance and vehicle license issued by ICBC;
- a BC care card or gold care card;
- a Social Insurance card or confirmation of Social Insurance Number issued by the government of Canada;
- a Status Card issued by Indigenous Services Canada;
- a citizenship card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada;
- a real property tax notice;
- a credit card or debit card issued by a savings institution; or
- a utility bill issued for the supply of electricity, natural gas, water, telephone services, or coaxial cable services.

Voting as a 'Non-Resident Property Elector'
To register: Download an application form available in late July and bring with you on voting day, or complete and return to the Municipal Hall prior to August 23, 2022.
In order to vote as a non-resident property elector you must satisfy the following criteria:
- not be entitled to register as a resident elector of the municipality;
- be 18 years of age or older;
- be a Canadian citizen;
- have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day of registration;
- the only persons who are registered owners of the real property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust;
- not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or be otherwise disqualified by law.
Proof of property ownership
You must also produce documentation evidencing proof of property ownership and forms for which will be available late July of other property owners (if any), only one owner may vote on behalf of the property.
Evidence of ownership shall be any of the following;
- state of title certificate;
- registered agreement for sale;
- property tax notice (last); or
- property assessment notice (last)
Written consent is required (a majority of the property owners) if there is more than one owner confirming they are entitled to register the jointly owned property; the person voting must also sign the consent form.
Answers to common questions
- No elector may vote more than once regardless of the number of properties owned;
- If an elector is a resident of the municipality and owns additional property in the municipality, they must vote only as a resident elector;
- It is not necessary to be a property owner to register and vote as a Resident elector;
- There is no restriction to the number of Resident Electors entitled to register and vote per household;
- Under the Local Government Act, corporations or businesses are not entitled to register and vote.
