A trail extension on Mount Newton Cross Road will finish the last piece of a pedestrian route from West Saanich Road to Wallace Drive.
The 1.2 meter-wide gravel trail will be suitable for walking, biking and horse-back riding, and it will be separated from the roadway to provide a safety buffer for users from vehicles.

The design calls for the trail to meander through the existing mature trees, which allows nearly all of the Gerry Oaks and Fir trees to be protected. A 16.7 meter (50 foot) long wooden bridge will span the stormwater creek that discharges from Rae Leigh Place. The entire project has been designed to accommodate equestrian users.
“This is a significant improvement for secondary students accessing the Individual Learning Centre on Mount Newton Cross Road and residents in the area,” said Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor. “We are pleased to see more infrastructure put into place to support active transportation.”
Construction of the 700-metre multi-use trail will take place on Mount Newton Cross Road between West Saanich Road and St. Stephens Road. Work begins mid-June and is expected to carry through to October. There will be single lane alternating traffic for a large portion of the construction window.
