Central Saanich recognized for excellence on 2025 Financial Plan

The District of Central Saanich has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2025 Financial Plan. This prestigious recognition marks the ninth consecutive year (2017–2025) the District has earned the award, underscoring its ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in financial planning.

The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the dedication of both the District’s governing body and staff to upholding the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To qualify, Central Saanich’s budget document had to meet nationally recognized guidelines that assess how effectively the budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

Each budget must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and across fourteen mandatory criteria to receive the award.

“We are proud to once again be recognized by GFOA for our commitment to clear, comprehensive, and strategic financial planning,” said Christine Culham, Chief Administrative Officer. “This award reflects the hard work of our staff and our dedication to serving the community with integrity and transparency.”

The Government Finance Officers Association serves more than 25,000 members across North America, advancing excellence in public finance through best practices, professional development, and practical research.
