JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Election Officer, this position assists with planning, coordinating, and delivering the Local Government Election. The Elections Assistant will provide administrative, logistical, and operational support essential to the successful conduct of the election.
The ideal candidate will have:
• A High school graduation, supplemented by business courses and/or related administrative training and experience.
• A Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle; will be required to provide a drivers abstract.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as required to support voting day(s) duties.

The hourly pay rate for this temporary six (6) month, full-time 7 hour per day position is $33.28-35.99 (2026 rates). Leading up to the election in the fall of 2026, the hours will generally be Monday to Friday, plus varying hours for Advance Voting Day, General Election Day and Special Voting Days which would include evenings and weekends. Elections Assistant

Full-Time Temporary
General Accountability:
Reporting to the Chief Election Officer, this position assists with planning, coordinating, and delivering the Local Government Election. The Elections Assistant will provide administrative, logistical, and operational support essential to the successful conduct of the election.
Nature and Scope of Work
• Assisting the Chief Election Officer to ensure all legislated election procedures and requirements are followed and enforced;
• Assisting with the recruitment, assignment, and training of temporary election staff;
• Ordering, organizing, and preparing supplies and materials for voting sites;
• Coordinating the distribution, security, and return of ballots including mail ballots and automated vote tabulators;
• Assisting with the preparation and distribution of statutory notices, advertisements, and public information materials;
• Assisting with the preparation, verification, and maintenance of the Voters List;
• Preparing election-related forms, statistics, and reports;
• Assisting with the creation and compilation of the orientation materials for the incoming elected officials;
• Assists in organizing the Inaugural meeting of Council;
• Follows all corporate policies and processes;
• Participates in emergency duties in the event of an emergency or disaster; and,
• Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
• Demonstrated experience with local government electoral procedures and familiarity with applicable legislation.
• Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and business English writing and grammar.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to research, analyze, and accurately process information.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
• Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and possess the manual dexterity required to handle boxes of supplies and election materials.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 including SharePoint and familiarity with web-based applications.
• Ability to identify and participate in opportunities for process improvements and willingness to stay up to date on industry trends and best practices to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ability to work positively toward advancing First Nations relations and awareness of federal, provincial and municipal initiatives advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
• Ability to promote and contribute to a positive, diverse and inclusive team environment.
Requirements

Hours of Work:
• This role typically works Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm; however, on advance voting, general voting day and special voting days they will be required to work longer days (i.e. 7:00 am to 11:00 pm) and may be required to work on a weekend.
• This position is not able to participate in the District’s Flexible Workplace Policy.
