Central Saanich Council has approved improvements to increase pickleball capacity at Centennial Park, responding to growing community interest in the sport.
Court #1 at Centennial Park, which is currently lined for both tennis and pickleball, will be relined to accommodate four dedicated pickleball courts, increasing opportunities for residents to play.
Work is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to continue into September. This timing allows flexibility for potential weather-related delays.
During construction, Centennial Park Court #1 — including pickleball courts 1A and 1B — will be closed.
“These improvements will help meet the growing demand for pickleball in our community and make better use of existing space,” said Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor.
Residents with existing court bookings during this time will receive a full credit to their account for future use; credits will not expire. Those with booking questions can contact community.services@csaanich.ca.
The upgrades are part of the District’s ongoing efforts to enhance recreation opportunities and ensure facilities reflect evolving community needs. Central Saanich currently offers six pickleball courts, with four in the Centennial Park Multi-Sport Box and two shared-use courts across the road at the Racquet Courts. Planned upgrades will increase overall capacity to eight courts.
