Emergencies can happen at any time, and the District of Central Saanich is inviting the public to its first Emergency Preparedness Expo on Sunday, May 5, at Heritage Acres, to learn what steps you need to take to be ready.
The Central Saanich Emergency Program, Saanich Peninsula fire departments and the Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization (PEMO) are kicking off Emergency Preparedness Week (May 5-11) by hosting an Emergency Preparedness Expo. Community members will benefit from this event by learning how to be better equipped to protect themselves and their loved ones in an emergency. Learn about the FireSmart program, meet emergency response experts, see live demonstrations, and get tips on making an emergency plan.
“Disasters may be beyond our control, but there are ways to reduce their impact on us,” said Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor. “The more informed we are about preparedness, the better we will get through an emergency event as individuals, neighbours and a community.”
“Experience has shown that preparedness goes a long way to help people cope better and by taking a few steps now, we can be better prepared during an emergency," said Lisa Banfield, Central Saanich’s Emergency Program Manager. “We may need to get by without power or water or communications channels. Be prepared to be self-sufficient (for you and your pets) for at least seven days in an emergency.”
Drop by Heritage Acres,7321 Lochside Drive on Sunday, May 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
