Central Saanich seeks community feedback on Mount Newton Pathway design

New multi-use pathway will connect Highway 17 with Saanichton Village

Designs are shaping up for a new pathway to walk, roll and cycle along Mount Newton Cross Road between Highway 17 and East Saanich Road. Crews will break ground on the project as early as 2027 or 2028.

Completed last year, phase one of the Mount Newton Pathway links Lochside Drive with the Lochside Regional Trail. Phase two will connect Saanichton Village with the trail, Tsawout First Nation and nearby neighbourhoods.

Community members can share their feedback on pathway design over the next four weeks. The design concepts differ in their placement on the south versus north side of Mount Newton Cross Road as well as pedestrian and vehicle separation. In late February, Central Saanich Council plans to review community feedback alongside input from SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) First Nation, Saanich Peninsula Accessibility Advisory Committee and others as they consider the design options.

Anyone who lives, works or spends time in the area is invited to review project information and share their thoughts. A print and online feedback form will be open from January 20 until February 16.

Residents can learn more at the District’s New Year's Open House on Saturday, January 24, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Fire Hall at 1512 Keating Cross Road, or at a Project Information Session on Sunday, February 1, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Municipal Hall at 1903 Mount Newton Cross Road.
