The District of Central Saanich is hosting virtual and in-person information sessions in November on proposed zoning regulations for infill housing.

Two in-person information sessions are scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2020, and Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the Saanich Fairground. Registered time slots are available on centralsaanich.ca/infillhousing to allow the District to schedule attendance for a safe event. Those that prefer not to attend the in-person events can register for a virtual information session taking place Friday, November 27, 2020, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., on Zoom. Those who cannot attend one of the events are welcome to phone or email the District with their feedback at 250-544-4209 or letstalkhousing@csaanich.ca.

The District began consulting the community about future growth management through the Residential Infill and Densification project in 2018. With the community’s input in mind, Central Saanich has adopted new housing policies and guidelines specific to infill housing, including small lots, accessory cottages & carriage houses, panhandle lots, duplexes, pocket neighbourhoods, small scale townhouses and the heights for apartment/condominium buildings. These will help meet the community’s evolving housing needs in a manner that is sensitive to the character of Central Saanich.

Details of the proposed regulations, such as building placement and height restrictions as well as architectural renderings, are available on the District's website and will be presented at the information sessions.

“The proposed regulations are based on community input on how we can best respond to the demand for more housing supply through sensitive infill,” says Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor. “I encourage residents to take a moment and review the information on the District’s website or attend an information session to learn about these important proposed regulations for infill housing.”

The District will use the community’s feedback as they finalize regulations for each type of infill housing.
