Central Saanich is aiming to make it easy to get to the 75th Anniversary Celebration next weekend as the community celebrates on Saturday, July 25, with a full day of free, family-friendly fun at Centennial Park in Saanichton.
The District is proud to partner with BC Transit to offer a free shuttle service on an accessible bus. The shuttle will stop at five stops approximately every 30 minutes, with the first run at 11:30 a.m. and the last run leaving the park at 8:15 p.m. Event attendees can hop on and hop off at marked shuttle stops at Stelly’s Secondary School, the library in Brentwood Bay, the bus exchange in Saanichton Village—south of the Prairie Inn on East Saanich Road—and Centennial Park at the corners of Wallace Drive and Hovey Road.
The District is also offering a free, secure Capital Bike valet service from 11:45 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the basketball court. Event attendees can leave bikes, scooters, strollers and bags in exchange for a numbered tag they hold onto until they’re ready to go home. A walking and cycling route will be marked along Tomlinson Road through the Centennial Park trails to offer a safe route to the celebration.
Drivers can expect Hovey Road to be closed between East Saanich Road and Centennial Park during the event. There will be limited public event parking along Wallace Drive and one large parking lot at the site.
Drivers are reminded they are prohibited from parking in bike lanes and to leave clearance near driveways, intersections and other areas that could impede public safety.
An overflow parking lot will be open at Stelly’s Secondary School. Drivers who park at the school can hop on the free shuttle or walk to the event along the marked route.
The celebration runs from noon to 8:00 p.m. throughout Centennial Park and features live local music, a food truck festival, kid zone, classic cars, a giant cake, beer garden, community activities and more. Everyone is welcome to attend.
