A new Habitat for Humanity home on East Saanich road has offered a family a chance to own their own home in Central Saanich.
Part of the Polo Village Development, the single-family home is on a small lot donated by Cube Project Management as part of the development. When new developments occur in Central Saanich, the municipality requires a contribution to the community, which ranges from funding to our affordable housing fund to a new park space, and--sometimes--a lot for Habitat for Humanity. The District is proud to support such a worthy contribution to our community. The project was also supported by a grant from BC Housing. Money raised during the annual Gingerbread Showcase fundraiser also went towards building the home.

Congratulations to Sarah and her family, and thank you to all involved in bringing another Habitat for Humanity home to the community.

About Habitat for Humanity

Families in Habitat’s Homeownership Program purchase their home at its full fair market value.Habitat’s program makes owning these entry-level homes possible by removing the need to make a down payment and financing the purchase through a no-interest mortgage. Monthly payments are set annually to ensure they do not exceed 30% of the family’s gross household income.
Habitat assesses each applicant family based on three key criteria:
- Willingness to partner with Habitat, including a contribution of 500 hours of “sweat equity”
- volunteering;
- Meeting the financial criteria (ability to re-pay the interest free loan); and
- Living in need – their current home is not suitable or is unsafe.
Habitat for Humanity has another Central Saanich Habitat home in the works on a lot donated as part of an 18-unit development on Veyaness.
