Peninsula hosts two Celebration Stations for GoByBike Week

Peninsula residents of all ages are invited to take two wheels to Celebration Stations popping up in Central Saanich and Sidney. Everyone is welcome to stop by for free snacks and drinks, fun and the chance to win generous prizes.

Central Saanich's Celebration Station will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on the Lochside Regional Trail at Mount Newton Cross Road (near the McDonald's). Sidney's Celebration Station will be Thursday, June 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Beacon Avenue at Fifth Street. It is part of the first Sidney Street Market of the summer.

GoByBike Week takes place across the province from Saturday, May 30, to Friday, June 5. The initiative encourages people to take a bike to work, school, errands and recreation. Locally, this free event is run by Capital Bike in partnership with communities. More than a dozen Celebration Stations will pop up across the region throughout the week; at each station, riders can collect a passport stamp for prize eligibility. Anyone can register and log rides online for the chance to win prizes such as a new bike, whale watching tours, ferry trips, hotel stays, wellness experiences, restaurant gift cards, BC Transit monthly passes and cycling gear, rentals and tune-ups.

Residents can shorten their trips around the region by cycling partway and taking the bus partway. BC Transit will be free during the week for anyone using a bus bike rack or carrying a bike helmet.

GoByBike Week passports are available from any Celebration Station, and stamped passports must be dropped off at any Celebration Station by the end of the week.
