A new crosswalk has opened on the East Saanich Road block of the Saanichton core. The project was one of Council's 2018 Strategic Priorities. Saanichton Village Association (SVA) originally advocated for the crosswalk, and both SVA president past and current celebrated the pedestrian safety improvement by joining members of Council and a representative of the police service to use the new crosswalk.

The crosswalk has buttons to activate flashing lights, which are solar powered.
