Council members from Tsartlip, Tsawout and Central Saanich, along with Emergency Management BC staff, held a forum on emergency preparedness May 1, 2019. The forum is part of ongoing work to ensure the community has a coordinated response, and the three communites can work together in an emergency if needed.

The group met in the District's Emergency Operations Centre (which is separate than reception centres for the public in the event of an emergency).
The emergency program staff provided updates and plans for the future. Staff from Emergency Management BC (EMBC is also based in Central Saanich) were able to join us and continue to support the community by sharing their preparedness and response expertise.

Staff from Emergency Management BC and Council members review tsunami zones on the peninsula.

Some of the opportunities identified by the group include coordinating how information is shared during an emergency, identifying responsibilities of each community and educating residents on what to do in an emergencies. There will also be opportunities for coordinated emergency training exercises. Next steps will be to identify priorities from the ideas generated at the session and develop an action plan.

Staff of Central Saanich and Tsartlip are supporting the community's emergency programs. Learn more about Central Saanich's Emergency Program.
